Inner Mongolia itinerary
3-12 July 2009
Day 1: Friday 3 July
Depart London direct flight to Beijing
Day 2: Saturday 4 July Beijing-Hohhot - Grassland
Arrive Beijing and catch domestic afternoon flight to Hohhot (capital city of Inner Mongolia). Bus transfer (approx 1 ½ - 2 hours) north into the Green Mountains to Xilamuren Grassland, overnight at Gher camp.
Day 3: Sunday 5 July Xilamuren Grassland – Swan Lake (20 Km approx.)
After breakfast we meet our horses and start 1st day of the ride. We visit a holy lake of the grassland – the Swan Lake. Overnight at camp site.
Day 4: Monday 6 July Grassland - Honger Cairn (ovoo) (45 Km approx.)
We continue the 2nd day horse trekking through a village and we arrive Honger Cairn, the local largest ovoo. We will visit nomadic families in this beautiful grassland. Camping site nearby a nomadic family, which supply well water and possibly electricity.
Day 5: Tuesday 7 July Bayin (50 Km approx.)
From our camp we ride northwards arriving at Bayin village. The scenery is beautiful in the massive grassland. We will ride through some hills and arrive at a campsite, which belongs to another local family. Also we get water supply and possible electricity here.
Day 6: Wednesday 8 July Haya – Dabusu Lakes (50 Km approx.)
Our 4th day will bring us to ride into more open terrain where there are fewer nomads around. We will visit Haya and its rich pastureland. We will see two lakes – Little Dabusu and Big Dabusu where thousands of birds gather in the summer. The scenery around the lakes is the most beautiful in the Grassland. Overnight camping near Wugachun village.
Day 7: Thursday 9 July Huagena – Dasugi – Mongolian Gher (50 Km approx.)
This is the final day of the horse trekking challenge. We get up early to enjoy our breakfast and the sun rise in the grassland. We continue trekking to our lunch spot – Dasugi. The finishing line will be set up at the Mongolian Gher. In the evening we have a celebratory dinner and dance at the Mongolian Gher camp and overnight.
Day 8: Friday 10 July Hohhot - Beijing
Transfer to Hohhot for a short city tour, then to the airport for domestic flight to Beijing.
Overnight at the Rainbow Hotel
Day 9: Saturday 11 July Beijing
Time to relax and explore Beijing. Optional tours are available to Great Wall, Forbidden City, Summer Palace etc. Overnight Beijing
Day 10: Sunday 12 July Depart Beijing
Morning transfer to airport for homebound flight to UK.
