Wadi Rum Horse Riding Challenge
28 March - 5 April 2009

Day One: Saturday 28 March 
Flight from London Heathrow to Amman.

Day  Two: Sunday 29 March
We have breakfast at the hotel and then enjoy a short tour of Amman to view some of the significant sites. We then transfer by coach (approx. 4 hours) to Wadi Rum where we will meet our horses and prepare for the following day’s ride. We camp overnight close to Lawrence of Arabia’s Seven Pillars of Wisdom at Wadi Umm Ishreen.

Day Three: Monday 30 March
We will wake early in our new surroundings. After breakfast at camp we begin riding through the sand dunes and dry oasis down to Jebel Umm Asah, where we can see two temples from the Thamodice Period, the 2nd millenium BC. These two temples have been carved in the rock for the purpose of travellers to pay tribute on their journey. Lunch will be en route. Then we continue to enter Wadi Rum via Wadi Umm Ishreen, riding via the canyons and the sand dunes. We will see some old graffiti and inscriptions through the ride in Wadi Umm Salab. This is where we begin to experience Arabia. We arrive at our second camp in Wadi Abou  
   
Day Four: Tuesday 31 March
Today’s ride will take us from Wadi Umm Salab through Siq Al Bareah, the longest canyon in Wadi Rum. We continue into Siq Umm Al Tawakey, a narrow canyon, used as a prison for the Bedouins. At this canyon there was a meeting between King Feisal (the ruler of Hijaz) and Lawrence of Arabia. The meeting was to discuss the revolt of the Arabs against the Ottoman’s. It was here that  the Arab revolt started with horsemen riding all the way to Aqaba. From here we will continue to Jebel Bourdah, the highest rock-bridge in Wadi Rum. For the adventurous it is possible to climb to the top and take in the stunning scenery. We continue riding up to Jebel Umm Sapatah, a fabulous spot to view the sunset. Overnight camping in Wadi Umm Saabit.

Day Five: Wednesday 1st April
The first part of today’s ride takes us through Wadi Saabat and along the Saudi border. We will be able to view the Saudi area and the Red Sea from here. This is one of the most beautiful sites in Wadi Rum for riders, it is a flat area with lots of old graffiti and inscriptions dating back to 2000 BC. We will visit some of the Bedouin tribes who inhabit this area and learn about their lifestyles and share a cup of tea with them. We continue riding to Jebel Umm Al Dami (1884 m above sea level) in the southern part of Wadi Rum. Riding via Wadi Umm Saham to Wadi Rizgah where we can see old statues and idols from the Nabatean period - ruins in the middle of nowhere. We camp in Wadi Salaada .

Day Six: Thursday 2nd April
After breakfast in camp we ride from Wadi Salaada through Wadi Swabit zigzaging among the most fabulous sand dunes and canyons viewing more and more of Wadi Rum and the Saudi area. We camp at Alshalaflash.

Day Seven: Friday 3rd April
Our ride continues in the southern part of Wadi Rum passing by Jebel Rum, 1754m above the sea level. After lunch we ride through Wadi Ruman to Jebel Um al Adaani and continue through Wadi Slaiman and Wadi Ramman. Our ride finishes by Wadi Rum Station. Here we say farewell to our horses and transfer by coach to Petra (approx 2 hours)  for our overnight stay at the Nabatean Castle Hotel.

Day Eight: Saturday 4th April
After breakfast at the hotel we visit the Brooke Clinic and meet the staff. After this we will have an optional full day to explore the Rose Red City one of the great wonders of the world. Evening celebratory meal at the hotel.

Day Nine: Sunday 5th  April
Early transfer to Amman for return flight to London Heathrow.
