Comment from Senior Welfare Executive Lee Hackett
I am continually amazed at the amount of the good work done by the BHS Welfare Department, thanks to the help of our volunteers, members and supporters.
Most horse welfare problems are not a result of intentional neglect or abuse. Often, a lack of knowledge is the root cause and this is why our belief in “prevention through education” is incredibly important.
Our nationwide network of dedicated volunteer welfare officers is essential and have improved the lives of literally thousands of horses. Thanks to the time and effort that our officers put in, we are able to fill a role that other organisations perhaps can’t. Our officers will work with owners over long periods of time and act as an ongoing free advice point; I can’t think of anywhere else that this kind of service is available. The work that our volunteers do never ceases to amaze me.
BHS Welfare achieves an enormous amount, far too much for me to discuss here. Our new website aims to tell you about some of it but this is just the tip of the iceberg. Please feel free to browse and download our information and advice sheets and remember to check back regularly as we have plenty of new ones planned for the future.
None of what we achieve would be possible without your support and I would like to thank you for that but we could always be doing more. Any donation, no matter how small, will be put to very good use and help us to help many more horses and ponies.
I hope you find something of interest to you on the website but, if you need anything else, just give me or one of the Welfare Team a call. That’s what we’re here for!
