Katie - Family pressures

Fourteen year old Katie became increasingly depressed when her parents’ marriage broke down.

A change in financial circumstances meant that Katie could no longer afford to continue the horse riding lessons she loved so much. In addition she was left with a lot of responsibility in caring for her three younger siblings. However, one of Katie’s school teachers was aware of the situation and contacted the BHS to see if they could help.

Using her network of contacts, BHS Scotland development officer, Helene Mauchlen, was able to arrange regular riding lessons at a local BHS approved riding school. As a result, Katie now gets the chance to take some time off from her family responsibilities and take pleasure in riding horses.

A donation of just £3 per month by direct debit to the BHS will help the BHS Welfare's national network of volunteer welfare officers to offer assistance like this: click here to donate now...
